This solo exhibition is a journey within the heart, inspired by the artist’s beloved black cat, who is the soul of the home, filling every corner with warmth and wonder. In the intimate space of a small studio, a cozy bedroom, or a living room filled with stories, art becomes the language of love, and each piece is a record of meaningful moments through paintings and sculptures. The artist weaves fragments of memories into a wondrous land where Marthan & Martin grow, play, and exist as symbols of connection, warmth, and the power of creativity.
The heart of The Wondrous Chamber exhibition is to see the magic in the ordinary. For even the simplest spaces can become special when filled with emotions, imagination, and hidden stories.
One inspiration comes from the concept of a “Wunderkammer”, the collection of rare and fascinating objects that reflect the identity and spirit of the collector. Similarly, this exhibition is a personal chamber of wonders, filled with love, memories, and art that intertwine seamlessly.
As we move through different phases of life, there are certain places that hold precious feelings for us, and deep within the chambers of the mind, there may still be wonders waiting to be rediscovered.
About the Artist: Mr. Sathavood Supboontum, also known as "Tang."
The Origin of Marthan & Martin
Marthan
A cheerful young man, Marthan was born from the sprout of a sunflower seed. During his undergraduate years, there was an art project that required the use of natural materials to create artwork. Tang (the artist) chose sunflower seeds, carefully arranging and sticking them one by one onto a frame, which formed into a monster-like shape. This concept intrigued him deeply. After that, he began sketching the poses of this seed-created monster repeatedly, which eventually crystallized into the character known as "Marthan."
Martin
A creature resembling a cat, squirrel, or black rat, Martin is the imaginary friend of Tang (the artist). Martin is a character with magical powers. When large, he has a warm heart; when of normal size, he is playful and mischievous; but when small, he becomes fragile and craves love. These traits of Martin were inspired by the quirky, adorable, and warm behavior of Tang’s own black cat, whom he loved dearly.
